Earth Day has been celebrated on April 22 every year since 1970.
The first Earth Day saw 20 million people across America join forces to raise awareness of environmental pollution. Today along with Earth Day we also celebrate Arbor Day, and this year both efforts are conjoined with #Trees4Earth, the Earth Day Network asking for 7.8 billion trees to be planted by 2020.
Today we hear the theme “Earth Day Every Day,” and a host of changes in both industrial and private environmental management practices are emerging.
Leading these changes are four of ROI Consulting’s clients that are wonderfully innovative companies going the extra mile to tread lightly on Mother Earth.
Let’s take a look at some of their contributions to a cleaner, greener and better planet.
Remember when people just drank from water fountains when they were thirsty? Back in the 1990s, people suddenly began toting those ubiquitous water bottles everywhere. But there wasn’t anyone in the market offering good-looking, reusable water containers that fit in just as easily in the office as in the outback.
Enter Kleen Kanteen. In 2002, Kleen Kanteen entered the market with beautiful, affordable, and durable stainless steel water bottles, mugs and other portable hydration devices. Plastic water bottles take 450 years to break down in a landfill. Every Kleen Kanteen product sold saves the world from drowning in plastic bottles and the pollution they cause.
Kleen Kanteen not only saves the environment through their products, they also generously donate 1 percent of their profits annually back to charities who support the preservation and restoration of the natural environment.
Not only do you get great products from them at reasonable prices, but every purchase you make prevents waste from entering the landfills and supports the restoration of the environment.
Goal Zero makes solar power a reality for thousands of outdoor enthusiasts. Their solar powered camping and emergency equipment transforms how the world powers itself. From emergency radios to lights, Goal Zero uses the most practical, renewable and clean energy source around, solar power, to enable people to enjoy the environment comfortable.
In addition to portable solar devices, Goal Zero also makes solar panels. We dream about a day when solar panels are so efficient we no longer have to burn fossil fuels to generate power. Goal Zero isn’t just dreaming about that day-they’re actively working to make it happen.
We might know you through Sage integration work, but we love you for what you do. Thank you for keeping the environment healthy, Goal Zero!

How Will You Celebrate Earth Day?
At ROI in Nebraska, we are getting ready to celebrate the Sarpy County Earth Day. Owner Ruth Richter serves on the board of Green Bellevue as a co-organizer for the seventh year and the event has grown significantly. We suggest you plant a tree to contribute to the Earth Day Networks #Trees4Earth program and look around your area for a way to celebrate locally.
We are thankful for our customers, and especially to those who make the world a cleaner, safer, and better place for future generations.
